Capital: Port Moresby

capital of Papua New GuineaPort Moresby – Papua New Guinea’s national capital on the southeastern coast of New Guinea.

Port Moresby is the capital and main seat of government of Papua New Guinea. The area has long been home to Motu-Koitabu communities, well before European exploration. Captain John Moresby surveyed the southeastern coast in 1873 and named Port Moresby after his father, Admiral Sir Fairfax Moresby. The settlement later developed as a colonial administrative center after Britain established a protectorate over southeastern New Guinea in 1884. Today, Port Moresby contains the national Parliament, government departments, diplomatic missions, businesses, universities, museums, and the country’s main international airport.
