📜 Timeline of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte
Early 15th Century: Kotte became the seat of royal power and developed into a major political, religious and literary center during the Kingdom of Kotte.
1979–1982: The new Parliament complex was constructed at Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. Parliament moved from its former building in Colombo to the new complex in April 1982.
29 January 1985: Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte became Sri Lanka’s new capital under an extraordinary government gazette dated 6 February 1985.
Today: The city remains the location of Sri Lanka’s Parliament and a central part of the country’s administrative district.
